 Cork has been used ever since it was discovered by the Greeks and the Romans more than 1,000 years ago.  It comes from a unique oak tree growing naturally throughout the Mediterranean region--and has properties that man still can't reproduce.  When it comes to cork, most people think wine stoppers and memo boards. But thousands more uses exist. This is the first feature we at Olive Earth have received from Marco Maggiore, Marketing Manager, Corkologie. He says: Cork is Cool, that’s why we created the Corkologie Line

OE:  What is the Mission that Corkologie has set out with?

MM: We here at Corkologie have a mission to become the center of the universe for products that are made with cork, one of the “greenest” materials on Earth.  Our goal is to educate, heighten awareness of cork as a useful material, and promote the ecology of the cork forests around the globe.

Part of our mission is to lead the cork recycling effort in the USA by helping to collect and recycle some of the 13 billion natural corks that are produced each year.  We collect the used corks and then reuse them as part of our natural cork material that we use to create our products.

OE: What is the business model at Corkologie?

MM: Cork being a natural material is sustainable, plentiful, recyclable, biodegradable, and supportive of eco-systems around the globe.  Cork trees are harvested every nine years by careful peeling of the outer bark from the tree.  The bark then regenerates and the process is repeated throughout the tree’s 150-year lifecycle. 

“We’ve taken the great eco-properties that cork inherently offers and applied elegant and clean design principles to create the Corkologie line,” said Bill Rolf, Edgewater Products owner.  “Consumers who are looking for affordable “green” accessories for their homes will love our products.  Just because it is green does not mean it has to be expensive. Our philosophy is that more people can be green if it is cost effective.”

Our Corkologie product line is made of 100% cork and offers consumers true eco-friendly concepts that offer clean design lines, style, and value. The unique nature of the line has been praised as a true stylish green product and best of all it is made right here in the USA! 

OE: How does the future look like?

MM: Our future goals include continuing to champion the cork rainforests and bring more mainstream attention to our product line through innovative product development.
